Clay Center is the county seat of Clay County located in south-central Nebraska. State Highways 14 & 41 serve the community and we are just 22 miles from Interstate 80.

Basic economic activites of Clay Center, a county seat town, include farming, cattle feeding, retail sales, and tourism. Deep well irrigation has enhanced and stablized the economy in recent years.

Continued growth of the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (MARC), located three miles west of Clay Center, keeps improving the economy of the area. The South Central Research and Extension Center of the University of Nebraska works in conjunction with MARC and is providing favorable growth and manpower to the area.

Scientists and engineers at the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (MARC) develop new technology for the meat animal industries to increase their production of high-quality red meat, thereby benefiting the consumer as well as the producer of livestock products.

Industrial Development Organizations

The Clay Center Redevelopment Authority (CRA), Clay Center Community Club, City of Clay Center, Clay Center Development Corporation and the Clay Center Community Foundation, Inc., work together for industrial development in the community.

Approximately four acres of land in and adjacent to the community are zoned for industry. The price of industrially zoned land ranges from $700 to $2,000 per acre.
