Education

Accredited "A" by the State Board of Education, Clay Center High School (CCHS) has an exceptional academic reputation with test scores consistently above the state and national averages.

The K-12 system enjoys a modern high school facility and gym. In the past five years, CCHS has earned five state championships in various sports. An experienced administration and staff provide an average 1 to 10 teacher-to-pupil ratio. Community scholarships are available to graduating seniors.

Served by Educational Service Unit No. 9 of Hastings, CCHS receives resources and expertise for its teachers and students.

Clay Center is ideally located near several post-secondary institutions. It is one and one-half hours from the University of Nebraska/Lincoln and University of Nebraska/Kearney; one-half hour from Hastings College and the Mary Lanning School of Nursing, and 20 minutes from Central Community College in Hastings.

Clay Center Library

The Clay Center Public Library has offered library service to the Clay Center Community for over 75 years. The building was built with funds donated by the Carneige Foundation. The Library has been certified by the Nebraska Library Commission. Internet connections, popular videos, best seller books, computer classes are some of the services available to card holders. The childrens library supports a strong summer reading program for elementary students. Books featured are the Golden Sower books, Accelerated Reader books, and many picture books. Library hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 3:00pm to 6pm; Wednesday 3:00pm to 8:00pm; Saturday 11:00am to 4:00pm. The library is located at 117 W. Edgar St., Clay Center, NE 68933. Service Organizations

A 40-man Volunteer Fire Department, a 24-hour volunteer Emergency Medical Technician and Ambulance Service, an active Community Club, Senior Center, and the Mrs. CC's keep people involved in the welfare of the community. In addition, the community is also served by the Lion's Club, American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW, SAL, and numerous Extension Clubs. A town rich in scouting, Clay Center builds leadership in its youth with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies and 4-H Clubs.

Religion

Five denominations offer worship and community support to area residents. Within five blocks of each other are the Christian Church, the Zion Lutheran Church and the United Church of Christ. St. Joseph's Catholic Church is located seven miles away at Harvard.

Health Care

The Clay Center Community Medical Center is served by one doctor four days per week and a nurse practitioner one day per week. Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital is located 22 miles away in Hastings. Three area nursing homes serve the community: Community Care of Edgar, (402) 224-5015; Harvard Rest Haven, (402) 772-7591; and Sutton Community Home, (402) 773-5557.

Housing

Clay Center is pleased to announce the development of (2) new subdivisions for the creation of residential housing that could eventually accommodate up to 50 new homes. Both developments are adjacent to the beautiful golf course. Contact the City Office at 402-762-3356 for more information.
